Anyone have some advice on how to get a duel started?

If I'm reading the tea leaves correctly, it looks like you don't have an opportunity to duel until Act II "Lost in Love" in a town called Chuparosa (page 103 in the strategy guide - which is pretty handy). I hope I'm wrong, but . . .

A duel is the last thing I need to finish before I can unlock the Crabby Assassin Outfit. Darn!

You can get into a duel as early as you are able to leave the McFarlan Ranch in the beginning.

Just do anything that builds fame and head into Armadillo. Walk the main streets and keep an eye out for someone cursing and spitting at you. Accept their challenge, walk to the designated location (middle of whatever street you're on).

It's fairly easy to beat people in a duel (I don't know if it gets progressively harder) just draw by using the right stick to go for your gun. Like it said in the Life in the West II trailer: Draw first and shoot faster with less accuracy OR riskily draw right after the opponent allowing you to more precisely place your shots. Either way works, the variation is pretty much there to let you get creative. Twisted Evil

I struggled to get a duel in armadillo.

So in the end i just stood by the saloon for about 5 - 10 minutes watching the world go by until it happened. (you will get some other random events happening aswel).

On another note for dueling you don't always have to kill the person (i do) but you can win a duel by disarming them.

You'll get challenged into duels as soon as you accumulate a good amount of Fame.

    As for the duels themselves:
    - Remember: The point of the duel is to fill up your bar (the left) faster than the enemy. You fill up your bar by making accurate shots. Your crosshair will get smaller and turn white in loop, mark the shots when the cross hairs are closer to get you bar to fill up quicker.
    - If you draw before the screen goes into Dead Eye Mode, its considered cheating, and you'll lose Fame. You can easily win by placing a lot of body shots here, though.
    - Some shots can incapacitate enemies, or disarm them. To make these shots, you have to mark a certain body part/gun when the crosshairs are at their closest/whitest. This will make you instantly win. REMEMBER: You HAVE to kill mission-based duels, so don't waste your time trying to incap them or disarming them.
    - The longer you wait before you draw, the closer the camera will zoom on the enemy, allowing you for better shots. But you'll have less time to react.
